STeP, CMU organized a seminar and workshop on the “Application of Spectroscopy to Gemstone Enhancement”

Science and Technology Park (STeP), Chiang Mai University organized a seminar and workshop on the “Application of Spectroscopy to Gemstone Enhancement” from August 29th to 31st, 2023. The event took place at Northern Science Park (NSP) and Center of Gemstone Enhancement by Ion Beam Technology (CIMO).

This event aimed to bring together researchers interested in mineralogy, gemstones, advanced instruments, and their applications. Its purpose was to upskill and improve knowledge in the field of mineral and gemstone analysis, using the techniques of Raman and Photoluminescence spectroscopy. The featured speaker, Prof. Dr. Lutz Nasdala, is an expert in the field of advanced instrument applied to minerals and gemstones from Department of Mineralogy and Crystallography, University of Vienna, Austria.

This event was one of activities in “Developing on The Service Potential of Center of Ion Beam Material Development and Optical Analysis (CIMO)” project, sponsored by the Program Management Unit for Human Resources and Institutional Development, Research and Innovation (PMU-B). Participants in this event included not only researchers from Chiang Mai University but also from Srinakharinwirot University (SWU), Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT), and Chulalongkorn University (CU). Additionally, the knowledge and skills gained from this event, researchers have convened for collaborative discussions and further research development on the frontier of the field.
